Today's "Spirit of Ecstasy" stands at 3 inches and, for safety, is mounted on a spring-loaded mechanism designed to retract instantly into the radiator shell if struck from any direction. There is a button within the vehicle which can retract/extend the emblem when pressed. She can be made of highly polished stainless steel, sterling silver or 24-carat gold, the sterling silver and gold being optional extras.

THE NAPIER-RAILTON ... David Kerr Celebrity Photographer.

I was lucky enough to attend the "Grand Prix Ball" at the Hurlingham Club in London this week, several historic racing cars were on display.
The Napier-Railton is an aero-engined race car built in 1933, designed by Reid Railton to a commission by John Cobb, and built by Thomson & Taylor. It was driven by Cobb, mainly at Brooklands race track where it holds the all-time lap record (143.44 mph) which stands since the track fell into disuse during the Second World War. Between 1933 and 1937 the Napier-Railton broke 47 World speed records at Brooklands, Montlhéry and Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.

A colourful mosaic being installed on the house of the late Oliver Postgate by the creator Martin Cheek. Oliver was a neighbour and well known to me, the mosaic shows the Clangers who were one of the many characters created by Oliver that became part of our childhood memories. He would of liked this tribute.

Exhausted passengers arrive at the Port of Dover, many having stories of long overland journeys costing several thousand pounds. Most now face long trips back to airports to collect cars before returning home.
